About « TELL

TELL is loosely inspired by my favorite short story “The Tell-Tale Heart”, and has been a passion project of mine for years now.  (One that unfortunately sat on the back burner for far too long!)

One of the most interesting aspects of the film is how it was made. I was determined to prove that you could make a professional level short film without all the perks of Hollywood. So with that in mind, and with a budget of only $2,000, I started enlisting the services of family and friends to help me get this film done.

From pre to post production, making TELL was a constant “work fast then wait” situation. Once I completed the script, it took almost 6 months to get the cast and crew together. Over 100 different actors tried out for the role of Taylor before we finally found the perfect fit for the film in Todd Bruno. Todd was like a breath of fresh air! There was absolutely no competition for him. His performance stood head and shoulders above the rest. But once we had Todd locked in, all the rest of the cast came together smooth as butter.

With pre-production done, I had to wait another 3 months until everyone’s schedules matched up for production. Which I have to say, I was not mad about. Those extra months gave me some more time to tweak my boards and refine the shooting schedule to make best use of our time. Once production came, it was a blast! It was easily one of the most fun and rewarding experiences of my life. Everyone clicked immediately and got along beautifully, which was partly due to the fact that we all had the same goal: tell the best story we possibly could!

Once production was done, I had a rough cut of the film completed within a few weeks, and then went on the hunt for a postproduction audio team. After another 6 or 7 months of searching, I was finally able to put together a fantastic post audio team. These guys are truly amazing! It is a joy to work with people that are so talented at what they do!

Finally the time to release the film is here. After the years of working then waiting… working then waiting… working then waiting… It is finally out into the world! I hope that you all enjoy watching the film as much as I enjoyed the journey of making it. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears were poured into this one.
